Our Personalized Inspection Services
At Virginia Chimney and Roofing we offer three types of chimney inspections, depending on your needs. Our certified technicians adhere to the strict guidelines set in place by the Certified Chimney Association (CCA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the NFPA 211.
Depending on the level of service the technician performs, some prep work may be required. They may temporarily relocate your furniture and interior decor to safely access your fireplace. Drop cloths are used to protect your flooring, personal items, and fireplace hearth.
If the use of a ladder or attic access is necessary, our technician will inform you prior to the start of the service. Once the inspection is completed, your technician will review all findings and discuss any recommendations they have regrading maintenance and repair. Feel free to ask any questions you may have at this time.

Chimney Inspection Levels
Level 1
The Level 1 service is recommended if you have not changed or do not plan to change your heating appliance or system. Since only a visual inspection is performed, the use of tools is not needed to open or remove doors, panels, or coverings in order to examine the chimney exterior and interior. Occasionally technicians may require basic tools to assist in further examining additional areas of the chimney and flue. However, they will not disturb the chimney structure or finish in any way. No roof and/or attic access is required.
Level 2
This level is required when updating or upgrading your existing heating system or replacing it for a different type entirely (such as converting a wood burning system to a gas-based one). This is also the level of inspection required whenever the sale or transfer of a property occurs. It is the recommended level when an operating malfunction or external incident is suspected to have caused physical damage to the chimney or appliance. This service also includes the use of a specialized HD video camera to identify and document any existing internal damage. Access to the roof is required for this level and possibly to your interior attic space.
Level 3
A level 3 inspection is only required when Level 1 or Level 2 inspections indicates hazards in concealed areas of the chimney and flue. This involves the removal or possible destruction to parts of the chimney or original structure. Additional specialized tools or machinery may also be required, depending on the level of damage assessed.
